Sitting at the edge of the hot spring at 8 years old, I remember finding it a little uncomfortable that everyone was naked, but apparently that’s what ya do at a rainbow gathering. Oh and everyone trades stuff, suddenly my collection of seashells was valuable. I figured that out quickly. I was very entrepreneurial.
As a child I grew up moving a lot, and going to a rainbow gathering was one of many experiences of our “homeless phase”, that I look back on and think:
1) my mom was way cool back then, and
2) No wonder people thought I was weird when I eventually went to public school in NYC in 5th grade, and
3) I’m sooo grateful I didn’t have a normal childhood.
What’s “normal” anyway?
At 2 I could read.
At 4 years old I wrote many poems to the moon.
At 8 I experienced a trauma that I won’t go into right now.
At 10 I rode the subway in NYC alone to ballet and school and allll over Brooklyn and Manhattan.
At 14 I traveled to India for 2 months and learned soooo much about life and death and God, and I actually discovered my love for devotion here.
I saw someone die in front of me, I saw people release their deceased beloved children into the holy Ganges River to purify their souls, and other people next to them washing their clothes and bathing their bodies. I learned here that belief means everything and if we believe in something strong enough, nothing else matters. At 17 I wrote my first book —a collection of poetry and photography. And then I became an adult, which set into motion a cycle of heartbreak and healing for about a decade or so. All of this is to say that experience matters. What I went through matters and makes up the unique being that I am. The same is true for you. And one of the things that I absolutely LOVE is learning the unique histories and mysteries that make up my friends, clients and loved ones. It truly is what makes my soul light up. What lights you up in this way? What pieces of your history are you hoping to integrate to claim the life you desire? Comment below or contact me to discuss spiritual and life mentorship.
