Secure Attachment as a Lifestyle
I was talking with a client this week about the strides she's made in her relationship with her partner...she's been more expressed about her needs and desires, she's feeling more and more fulfilled, and then she said...I just don't understand why I'm still so anxious if I'm feeling more secure in my relationship.
Here's the thing about your attachment style. It's so much more than how you relate to a partner. It's the habitual responses you developed through your childhood that impact how you show up in relation to every area of your life...your finances, physical body, your boss at work, your friends, intimate partner's etc.
So when my client was talking about how she's still feeling anxious, we explored more about how she shows up in other areas of her life. She admitted she wasn't eating breakfast, drinking coffee on an empty stomach, and sometimes going 12 hours or more without any food!
This is not what it takes to cultivate a secure relationship with your body. By doing so, you're putting your body in a state of stress by not giving it resources and teaching it that it needs to survive through imbalance. You're essentially running on fumes, and this impacts everything--sleep, mood, hormones, digestion, etc. It's so important to remember that how you take care of and nourish yourself physically has a ripple effect on how you feel emotionally. This seems obvious, but it's so important to remember that having a secure relationship with yourself, means how you take care of your physical health too. Your body wants to feel safe, taken care of, loved and appreciated. Are you giving yours what it needs to feel secure?
My Daily Coffee Recipe that is Nourishing vs. Depleting
As many of you know, I'm all about pro-metabolic eating. I avoided coffee for MANY years because I felt shaky, anxious and irritable anytime I'd drink it. I didn't realize that was for 3 important reasons. 1) my coffee was moldy--yes, most mainstream coffee is moldy. 2) I was drinking it on an empty stomach. 3) I wasn't eating balanced meals the rest of the day. Healing my metabolism has allowed me to be able to drink coffee again and still feel amazing. I don't get hangry (it used to be soooo bad!), I don't have "coffee crashes" in the afternoon, and my mood is stable.
Ingredients:
10 oz of Purity Coffee
1 raw egg yolk blended
1.5 tbs of Raw, Organic Sugar
1 Tablespoon of Perfect Supplements collagen
1/4 cup or so of steamed raw milk
Directions: Brew coffee via your method of choice. I'm obsessed with my pourover coffee, but you do you. While brewing whisk the egg yolk with sugar until it forms a custard (about 3 minutes). Add in collagen. Blend until combined. Add in steamed milk and stir. Then pour in coffee. Yummy and full of nutritional benefits.
